Atari 7800
Atari 7800

I was able to pick myself up an Atari 7800 recently. The good news is I got it on the cheap and the plastic is still on the metal, meaning it's entirely scratch free. The bad news is that it still has by far the worst controllers ever designed. What was Atari thinking?! I remember playing on my cousin's system when it originally came out, and thinking the same thing then (Nintendo's D-Pad was a pretty sweet invention you gotta admit).

Anyway, I've had a few 7800 games for a while, just no system to play them on. Now that problem is solved. 18 systems and counting...

My vote for the "Worst Controllers Ever" award goes to the Intellivision. Althought the 5200/7800 joysticks were notoriously flakey.

Actually, Intellivision is the one of the few systems I've never actually played. Perhaps when I get one it will upend the 7800 and its shitty crapsticks.

YO! My brother and I melted the plastic innards of that joystick from repeated use in the 400 meters in "Decathalon".

Thanks for spurring the memories.

If you don't want to get the system, apparently the "Intellivision Lives!" release for the PS2 is pretty great, including 60+ games and full history.

As for the 7800, I can't remember -- didn't it also have the capability to run RCA cables, or was it standard RF? I need to pick one up one of these days.

It's RF, but I believe there's some info online about how to add RCA output to it if you want to hack it.

And I do want an Intellivision.
