Marathon

Secret to Success: The original Macintosh 3D shooter, Marathon brought to the table all sorts of innovations that the PC world could only match with Doom. First of all this game had a plot. The single player game was almost as fun as the deathmatch version, especially when played at night in the dark. But the weapons were especially nuts. The blowtorch, the Spanker (rocket launcher) and the plasma gun were all amazingly fun to wipe out opponents with. And the real world physics really kicked ass when you were Spankin guys in the arena and watching them fly. And screaming "Bob's" weren't bad either.

Memorable Moments: The best part about this game was deathmatch. I used to hook this game up in the labs and play a little arena action. You could video tape your games, and I have this one tape of me overshooting this guy with the Spanker, but the explosion knocked him back towards me, and he actually hit me and splattered all over my face! It got even more intense when we decided to make our own levels. We'd usually design little traps for each other to fall through. Ah, those were the days.
